14 Things I Do Everyday To Make My Life Better
Self-improvement books are overrated; the real change comes from within.
The key to a fulfilling life might just lie in how you tie your shoelaces.
Life improvement doesn’t have to be a Herculean task.
How many times have you overlooked the simple things that can potentially make your life better?
I’ve been on the self-improvement journey for quite some time now, 7 years to be exact.
And what I have invariably experienced time and time again is that instead of huge life changes, a series of tiny tweaks can sometimes make the biggest difference.
Fulfillment is often found in the simplest daily routines.
My daily transformation begins with a single cup of morning coffee.
Here are 14 precise small tweaks that have led to some of the most beautiful changes in my life.
1. Keep Challenging Yourself
Life becomes a thrilling journey when viewed through the lens of a lifelong learner.
I have realized that it’s key to consistently push my boundaries, whether by learning new things or doing something that I wouldn’t normally do.
Each challenge conquered serves as a stepping-stone toward growth.
2. Engage in the ‘Flow’ State Daily
The magical state where time seems irrelevant, and your whole being is engrossed in the task at hand — that’s the ‘flow’ state.
For me, writing is the activity that I intentionally indulge in that pulls me into this blissful zone of productivity.
And the more I practice being in this state, the easier the day seems to unfold.
This not only leads to enhanced focus in just my writing but in everything I do throughout the day.
Win-win.
3. Stack Positive Habits
Habit stacking is a key part of my routine.
For example, each of my habits is a cue for the next habit to follow.
I begin my day by making a cup of coffee.
This is immediately followed by 30 minutes of reading.
Reading is followed by 30 minutes of meditation.
I stack key habits on top of each other to make it easier for me to follow them.
This clarity leads to discipline.
And it not only creates a seamless integration of the new habit but also reinforces the old one.
4. Keep Your Promises to Yourself
Building trust with myself has been a game-changer.
I kind of learned this unconsciously.
Whenever I would promise myself anything and did it, I felt extremely good about myself instantly.
Whenever I failed my words, my liking for myself would go down.
So I quickly turned this into a life principle.
When I make a promise to myself — be it waking up on time or a reading goal — I ensure to keep it.
This has enhanced my self-confidence and created a strong sense of self-accountability.
5. Spend At Least 2 Hours in Your Own Company Every Day
Solitude is my sacred ritual.
Whether it’s enjoying a silent walk or intense journaling sessions or merely sitting with myself doing nothing, these uninterrupted hours of ‘me-time’ nurture my mental and emotional health.
6. Do Things to Keep Your Inner Child Happy
Amidst adulting, it’s easy to forget the carefree joy of our childhood.
I make sure to indulge my inner child, whether it’s through doodling aimlessly or enjoying my favorite movies.
These moments are an instant injection of happiness and a reminder to not take life too seriously.
7. Keep Your Private Life Private
Maintaining a personal boundary between my private and public life has given me a haven of peace.
It is key, especially in today’s world, to keep a few special things in your life just for yourself.
This clear demarcation safeguards my mental space and allows me to stay my authentic self without any external judgment or influence.
8. Never Voice Out Complaints
I’ve replaced complaints with solutions in my vocabulary.
I never voice out my frustrations. No matter what.
And I know this is a little extreme, but this has worked amazingly for me.
9. Master Your Thought Patterns
Being aware of and actively shaping my thoughts has made me more aware and conscious of my life.
Whenever I find myself too up in the clouds of my thoughts, I immediately begin writing them down in my journal.
You can think about a thing 1000 times.
But you cannot write it 1000 times.
It instantly makes the overthinking disappear.
Instant action.
10. Work on Personal Projects Regularly
Personal projects — be it writing, or reading and completing a book — fuel my passion and creativity.
The joy of witnessing a project come to fruition is unparalleled.
It allows you to make yourself taste a win, no matter how small.
And it soon turns into a habit, forming a “wins flywheel” of your own.
11. Practice Purity of Intentions Daily
Each morning, I consciously set my intentions for the day, ensuring they align with my core values and goals.
This daily ritual keeps me anchored and guides my actions.
It also allows me to stay authentic in all that I do and how I operate in the world.
12. Journal Daily
Pouring my thoughts and experiences into a journal has become a cathartic exercise.
It not only declutters my mind but also fosters self-reflection and clarity.
The pages of my journal bear witness to my journey, reminding me of how far I’ve come.
13. Read Daily
Books are a passport to different worlds, ideas, and perspectives.
Whether it’s a thought-provoking non-fiction or a captivating novel, reading daily is my non-negotiable.
It’s also proven to be the most beneficial habit in my life.
14. Pray Daily
Irrespective of religious beliefs, I find that prayer, or simply expressing gratitude to the universe, brings a sense of serenity.
It helps me remember the bigger picture.
At the same time, helps in grounding me in the ebb and flow of life.
